Welcome to my zone 9 garden. My roots are deeply planted in the sandy soil of sub-tropical central Florida, where the summers are long and hot, but the rest of the year is paradise!
Here are some of my favorite plants this month...begonia, Indian blanket flower, cast iron, nandina (a/k/a heavenly bamboo), and a piece of "sunny" garden decor.
Oh, I love your choices for favorites (this month!) I am coveting that variegated cast iron plant. Well, really I don't want YOUR exact plant, just one of my own:)
Our favorites *this month* are really similar! I love the variegated cast iron plant. I'm not sure I've ever seen that. So much more interesting than the green.
Meems...It is a nice variety, especially for shade. I'm not sure where I got it from.
FloridaGirl...My sister has a shorter variety of cast iron that is speckled. It looks like someone shook a paintbrush over a dark green leaf. She thinks the name is Peter Pan.
I'm in the state of "Seeing Red" these days! Every window I look out of I "See Red" and it's wonderful!! ...

Welcome to Ma Petit Jardin ~
"My little garden" is a mere 1/8 of an acre of garden space. It was chosen with the intention to simplify and create my own "little" piece of paradise.
Don't let its diminutive size fool you. My plans for this "petit" space include a haven for a variety of wildlife, a kitchen garden, and of course, plenty of bold Florida foliage and cottage flowers.
This won't be "gardening as usual." It's going to take a little creativity and "outside of the box" thinking, and I'm definitely up for that.

LOL, Susan!!! I completely relate to "my favorite...THIS month"! There's too many to choose from to have a constant favorite! I like your picks.
Together we save...the flowers are really beautiful, especially since they didn't freeze.
NanaK...I know what you mean. It is a real beauty and it grabs your eye in the shade garden.
Kimberly...It's kinda like eating potato chips...in this case, I couldn't just pick one!
Susan,
Good picks. I would like to find some of that cast iron....
never see that variety for sale around here.
Blanket flower is really great... loves our hot summer and made it through the low temps almost as easily.
